Ireland climb to 2nd in World Rankings

LONDON – Ireland have climbed to 2nd in World Rugby’s official rankings after showing an experimental Welsh side the door to their own stadium on Saturday and South Africa’s slip up to Argentina.

The ranking is Ireland’s highest ever since the ranking system began in 2003 after moving to third after their 6 Nations triumph in March. The move is indicative of Schmidt’s fruitful reign which has seen the Irish team win back to back 6 Nations titles as well as record wins over Australia and South Africa in the past 18 months.

The good news for Ireland is very, very bad news for South Africa who, after losing to Argentina on Saturday, move down to fifth on the ladder, with Australia moving up to third followed by England who remain in fourth.

As sure as the sun will shine, the All Blacks remain in first position despite losing their final Rugby Championship match to Australia, ensuring their mortgage on the ranking that they’ve held ever since the start of the current ranking system.
