Sam Burgess leaves Bath to return to the NRL

Burgess

LONDON – Former Bath Rugby flanker Sam Burgess has officially left the club and will return to play for his old team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League.

There had been intense speculation over the 26 year old’s future after reports suggested that Burgess was disappointed in how he was being treated in Rugby Union.

Rumoured to have met with several rugby league sides after the World Cup, it was confirmed early Thursday afternoon that that had indeed been the case.

He switched codes to join Bath last year but will now head back to play for the Rabbitohs, the club he won the 2014 NRL Premiership with.

Burgess, part of the England team that suffered a disappointing pool exit at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, had been given time off by his Aviva Premiership club after the campaign. But the latest developments show that he has played his last game in Rugby Union.
