Allen ruled out of tournament as Wales’ nightmare continues

Cory Allen

LONDON – Wales’ winger Cory Allen has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup after tearing his hamstring in Wales’ win over Uruguay in Cardiff on Sunday.

Assisted off the field in the second half after scoring a first half hat trick, Allen’s World Cup fate continues Wales’ injury nightmare which has seen player after player ruled out of the tournament. Allen will be replaced by young Newport Gwent Dragons’ Centre Tyler Morgan while a few other places are in doubt for their next match against England on Saturday.

The rusty 54-9 win over Uruguay came at significant cost with Props Samson Lee, Aaron Jarvis and Paul James all picking up injuries. Fullback Liam Williams is also in doubt for Saturday’s huge match against the host nation.

World Cup life just continues to get worse for Gatland who was already running out of players to select before the start of the tournament with a number of first and second choice backs ruled out. However, some questions will inherently fall on Gatland and Wales’ team management about the training regimes of the players leading into the tournament.
