Ford firmly in the driver’s seat

George Ford

LONDON – As he prepares to make his first start for England in the 6 Nations Championship, George Ford has asked Wales to bring their best when they clash in Cardiff on Friday Night.

Making his third start for England overall, Ford vows that he won’t be overawed when they run out on to the pitch at Millennium Stadium in the 6 Nations Championship opener.

The Wales’ faithful have vowed to create the same atmosphere that saw the home team well and truly humble the visitors 30-3 in 2013. Add that to Warren Gatland’s invitation to his pack to make life as uncomfortable as possible for Ford at pivot and you have an entertaining dogfight on your hands.

Despite being identified as potentially the weak link by Wales, George Ford has urged them to test out his defences on Friday night.

“I know what’s coming. It happens in most matches you play as a No.10 – you get targeted,” he said.

“They look for you defensively and want you to make you tackles. It’s something you expect and prepare for.”

“They want you to make as many tackles as possible to take other aspects of your game away, whether that’s your attack, kicking game or game management. I like that part of the game – I like the responsibility of making my tackles because I want to contribute in defence as well as attack.”
