McCaw to make history

Richie McCaw

AUCKLAND – When Richie McCaw runs out onto Eden Park on Saturday, he will make his 142nd test appearance and become the most capped test player of all time, overtaking Ireland’s Brian O’Driscoll 141 test caps.

Among McCaw’s impressive record, he has captained the All Blacks 103 times of which he boasts a winning ratio of 89% overseeing New Zealand’s rise as the best rugby team in the sport’s history as well as one of the most successful teams in world sport. He was also the man to guide New Zealand to the holy grail in 2011, seeing them claim the Rugby World Cup for the first time in 24 years.

With his third and last World Cup approaching next month, records will be out of the flank’s mind as he mentally and physically prepares for a tilt for the Cup, a campaign that if successful, would well and truly condemn McCaw to be seen as one of the greatest rugby players of all time.

Outplayed in Bledisloe 1 by a determined Australian side, McCaw will be eager to make amends and win the Bledisloe Cup as captain for the eight time as captain. It will most likely be the final time McCaw will play in an All Black jersey on New Zealand soil.
