Wales shock England after being down and out

LONDON – The upsets at the Rugby World Cup continue to roll with Wales handing the hosts their first defeat of the tournament, winning 28-25 in front of a packed house at Twickenham.

Many questioned whether Wales would finish the match with 15 men after a number of its key players suffered what looked to be serious injuries in the second half. At one stage in the second half, it was a procession of injuries as the stretcher cart appeared on the field twice in the space of three minutes.

But Wales recovered, regrouped and they did it with so much heart and assistance from Dan Biggar’s boot followed by a brilliant try under the posts by scrum half Gareth Davies in the final quarter of the match, which is when the game was truly broken open.

Up until then, England completely dominated around the park with their set piece reigning supreme over Wales. Leading 16-9 as the teams went into sheds, many expected England to go on with the job and finish off a Wales who, on all accounts, looked down, injured and out.

It will be a myriad of frustration for England Coach Lancaster with his team looking to have the match under control with 20 minutes to go.
