Warburton in for Wales?

LONDON – After suffering an injury in his club match against Leinster, his club’s director of rugby has seen no reason why Sam can’t take his place in the team for the opening match of next month’s 6 Nations against England.

After suffering a facial injury in a collision with Leinster’s Ben Te’o, many were prepared for the worst as the rampaging flanker came from the field after just 13 minutes in Cardiff’s loss to the Irish team.

However, Cardiff Blues’ Director of Rugby Mark Hammett saw no need for Warburton to miss the match with, according to the former coach of the New Zealand based Hurricanes, his injury greatly exaggerated.

“”Preferably it’s just a week off,” he said.

“Sam got a cut to the eye. I don’t think it’s severe. I spoke to him after the game and he was driving home. So in terms of his sight and that side of it, I think he’s pretty good.”

The declaration by Hammett will ease Welsh injury concerns after fullback Liam Williams suffered a shoulder injury in the Scarlets loss to Glasgow who is awaiting results from scans.
