Injuries get the better of Rennie

Ross Rennie

LONDON – Scotland International Ross Rennie has called time on his career after he admitted he would never fully recover from a serious neck injury.

Earning 20 caps for Scotland in between 2008 and 2012, the 28 year old was likely to earn more in this year’s 6 Nations as well as the Rugby World Cup in September however has never quite evaded serious injuries.

Struck down by knee and shoulder problems at Edinburgh, Rennie hoped a move to Bristol would see him navigate the seasons more injury-free. However he suffered neural damage to his neck in the game against Mosely in October and has admitted now that he’s had to turn his focus away from rugby.

“I’ve had a problem with my neck for several months and it’s not getting any better. I think it’s just a case of the body giving up a bit,” Rennie told the Scotsman.

It is an unfortunate end to a promising career which has been plagued by injury.
