Mujati returns to the Aviva Premiership

Mujati

LONDON – Sale Sharks have announced the signing of former South African International Prop Brian Mujati on a two year deal.

The move signals Mujati’s return to the Aviva Premiership after joining Racing 92 in France’s Top 14 from Northampton where he spent five years and made 110 appearances.

The Zimbabwean-born prop earned 12 caps for the Springboks and played his final match for South Africa against England at Twickenham in 2008.

His international career was controversially cut short when Mujati was deemed ineligible to play for South Africa because he was not legally a South African citizen.

Sale rugby director Steve Diamond said that he was delighted to have the 30 year old on board.

“This is the second time I have signed Brian. When I worked for Northampton, heading up their recruitment department, I spotted Brian and he was an instant success at Franklin’s Gardens,” he said.

“This is a great signing for the club and will give us plenty of firepower up front. Vadim Cobilas was outstanding last season at tighthead, but we had to rely on him every single game.”
