LONDON – Hulking Springbok back-rower Pierre Spies will join the du Plessis brothers as well as former Springbok Coach Jake White at Montpellier after the World Cup next season.

A very underrated player, Spies has perhaps failed to completely fulfill his potential suffering a rather stop-start career interrupted by injury however he’ll be welcomed at Montpellier and will really bulk up the Top 14 team’s no.8 stocks with former Brumbies back-rower Ben Mowen having moved there in 2014.

The no.8 has had a solid season with the Bulls despite the Pretoria-based Super Rugby franchise missing out on the championship playoffs after faltering at the wrong times during the season.

This won’t be the end of Pierre Spies Springbok career with South Africa’s player selection model still very much based on selecting overseas-based players. However, it will be disappointing for Bulls’ fans and Super Rugby fans that they didn’t quite see the best of the 30 year old who’s career has very much mimicked that of former Springbok Bobby Skinstad
