OPINION – It’s fair to say that regardless of whether you follow England or even whether you’re a rugby fan at all, you would know that England’s loss to Wales at Twickenham has placed the hosts in a very hairy situation.
Staring down the barrel of becoming the first Rugby World Cup host nation to not qualify for the quarter final, the England rugby team have their backs well and truly against the wall.
The equation for tonight’s match against the Wallabies is rather simple for Lancaster and his men; lose and perish, win and they’re afforded an extra week at the tournament.
Such was their disaster against Wales that even a win against the Wallabies tomorrow guarantees them of nothing moving further into the tournament. But however disastrous that loss was, there were positives to take out of the match and into their do-or-die clash against Australia at Twickenham.
