Hamilton calls time after missing RWC selection

JIm Hamilton

LONDON – Scotland Lock Jim Hamilton has retired from international rugby after being overlooked by Coach Vern Cotter for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The 32 year old made his debut for Scotland against Romania in 2006 and made his final appearance in Scotland’s 16-12 victory over Italy in Turin last month.

Making 63 appearances for Scotland, Hamilton was cut along with 10 other players who were excluded from Scotland’s Rugby World Cup squad  including John Barclay, Blair Cowan, Adam Ashe, Hugh Blake, Chris Cusiter, Alex Dunbar, Rob Harley, Ruaridh Jackson, Duncan Taylor and Greig Tonks.

The Saracens player took to social media platform Twitter to express his disappointment but said he was grateful to spend as much time playing international rugby as he did.

“I have loved every single moment of wearing the thistle and feel extremely humble to have done it for nine years,” he said.

“Today is both a sad day and a day that I feel extremely proud to have had. Thank you to the Scotland supporters for making it so special.”
