LONDON – Wales Coach Warren Gatland has named youngster Tyler Morgan at 13 to play against the Springboks at Twickenham in the World Cup quarter final on Saturday.
Tyler Morgan replaces George North at centre with North moving back to his more familiar wing position in place of Liam Williams who was ruled out of the tournament after Wales’ loss to Australia.
It will be just Morgan’s third test match after making his test debut against Ireland in one of their World Cup warm up matches followed by making his Rugby World Cup debut against Fiji. He’ll be expected to bring a bit more versatility and penetration to the Welsh backline after they failed to breach Australia’s staunch defence last weekend.
Up front, Gatland has sprung a few more selection surprises with Dan Lydiate replacing Justin Tipuric in the back row that will see captain Sam Warburton return to his beloved no.7 jersey. Meanwhile loose-head Paul James is dropped to the bench with Gethin Jenkins taking his place in the starting lineup.
